"You felt the separation from your culture, our own homes and languages. When you went back home things weren't the same anymore. You were ashamed that you had once lived that way. The education they gave you was so that you could become a true person. Total assimilation was their goal so that you no longer spoke your language. They wanted the children to be ashamed of their culture and origin. We definitely lost a lot."
